My 2022--never mind that of the outside world--was, as usual, a mix of ordinary events and choices, some wonderful events, and a couple that were utterly horrible. We're assured that the good and the bad and the ordinary can work together for good, and "all luck is blessed." It sure doesn't feel like it at 3 in the morning. 12 hours later, the year-to-date seems happier.
I can't remember when I last mentally summed a year up , especially as I have particular years from the past summed up dramatically: 1973, 1994, 1998. For each of those life was different at the end of the year than at the beginning, and I was different as well.
ReplyDeleteSometime in the early 2000s, I think, as the older boys left and the younger ones were adopted and relatives in the generation above began to die I stopped storing the information in that way. I don't often think in terms of luck at all, good or bad, though chance events have broken my way or not, just like everyone else. Thanks for providing the occasion for me to think about it.
The Twilight Zone episode "A Nice Place to Visit" shows that unbroken good fortune is, for a tainted soul, more likely to be Hell rather than Heaven.
