Man, you can get into an ugly argument about that up around Boston. Because some people were undeniably treated badly, the descendants of others who weren't still feel resentful.
I wonder if it is harder to give up "somebody else's grievances" that you've assumed than to give up your own. Maybe if it costs you something significant...
