Jazzing up the description

Use literary or allusive references to describe chess. Queen's Knight could be Lancelot (Mallory be the pawn?), Becket could be the King's Bishop (Eliot be the pawn?). Windsor could be the Queen's rook (Howard?). Ranks could be partridge, dove, hen -- or maybe that's not elegant enough.

I need to think about move descriptions; "Howard showed Mallory eternity?"

  1. If the Queen’s Knight is Lancelot, the King’s Knight is Gawain.

Or at least the White King’s, who would then be Arthur. It would be useful clarity to name the other side differently: Black Queen Morgana, Black King Mordred, Sir Palamedes the Saracen a knight of that side, etc.

  2. I don't know if this counts, but we used to have a set of "Knightmare Chess" cards which allowed for all sorts of silliness on the board.
