When on the observation raft over the
Kitch-iti-kipi (turn the wheel and it slowly rides back and forth along the cable) one vacationing teacher joked that men don't ask for directions. I suddenly realized that it was her fault. We're carefully taught to do the problems first before looking up the answers in the back of the book.
You write it humorously, but there’s something to that. There is a joy in figuring something out on your own which is pleasant enough to make the risk of getting there later worth it. I think it matters greatly how much control one has, though. It’s much more fun when you are the one holding the wheel.
