The lyrics of the most common English version of
Desafinado had nagged at me over the years. The singer
seems pretty self-centered--and insulting as well: "what good's a heart that's slightly out of tune. Tune your heart to mine the way it used to be."
The original is pretty much 180 degrees different. Don't blame me for not satisfying your perfect ear, "In the chest of those who sing out of tune, A heart is beating as well."

ReplyDeleteThe issue of singing out of tune reminds of of Darlene and Johnathan Edwards. Darlene Edwards, who made some out of tune comedy albums, was the alter ego of Jo Stafford, who certainly knew a thing or two about singing in tune.Stayin' Alive - Jo Stafford (As Darlene Edwards with Jonathan Edwards)
