I do not think that word means what you think it means

This from seconds ago by an NPR literary pundit recommending books to read while isolated.
"...it reminds me of the immortal (redacted), who died in 1991..."

I think with there being a program book at nearly every performance of Beethoven's 9th symphony having notes containing the narrative from Schindlers biography containing the line “Lasst uns das Lied des unsterblichen Schillers singen", it has become common usage to call someone immortal if their output will remain influential after their death.
