Without comment

I run across things I don’t plan to comment on (I can't improve on them!), but want to share.

If you like Tolkien’s work, here’s a discussion of who wrote like or not like Tolkien and why. And some recommendations. From John Wright

Understand how laws work. Or else! ( You may as well come along quietly, you’re guilty anyhow. ) From The Criminal Lawyer

British Intelligence told the Germans about the Dieppe raid! From Donald Sensing

Exceptionally good links. I had never heard of Wright, but his reading history tracks mine and my wife's quite closely.

I long ago gave up reading anything that someone said was either like Tolkein or like C.S. Lewis. Obviously those other people and I are seeing something completely different in the books we like. In fact, I almost never believe anyone about any fiction. I have better luck with recommendations for non-fiction.

But I'll still recommend "Courtship Rite" and "Malevil," wonderful books that nobody but me ever reads, as far as I can tell.

I loved the post about laws. I'm sorry we've gotten to the point where people think only the government can regulate behavior, and only with criminal penalties.

I also recommend Kingsbury's COURTSHIP RITE. I thought when I read it that it was like a Jack Vance novel written in a AE Van Vogt pacing. I had the honor of meeting the author at a convention, and he confirmed that these were his two favorite authors, and his influences.
