We got to talking about the difference in preaching between your typical anglo congregation and a black one. I suspect that the more congregation-interactive approach ("Can I get an Amen?") in the latter leads to less of "Beautiful Dreamer".
In parts of 2007 and 2008, the building in Iraq we were using as a headquarters was located by a trailer that had been brought in and appointed the base chapel. On Sundays there was a Catholic service, a general Protestant service, and an “Evangelical” service that was really the black church service. It’s a good thing that no mortar attacks ever occurred during that service, because I’m not sure they’d have heard the bombs going off and known to take cover.
