A brother of a friend of my wife joined us for lunch today. He's a retired librarian, and applauded a site I'd not heard of before:
Hathi. (presumably named after one
who doesn't forget) The site claims millions of digitized books; I'm reading one scan now. I gather that some of the copyrighted material is available with institutional login.

My librarian wife thanks you
My understanding of Hathi is that you can read online, but you cannot download unless you belong to an approved institution. As I do not like reading anything longer than 1,000 words on a computer, that limits Hathi's usefulness for me. Better Internet Archive.
