It took me a moment, but I think you are on to something. All of our memories are photogenic in some way, aren't they?
The observation is due to my wife.In one way the revised memory can be truer--the way someone has grown over the years tells which aspects of their early life were the most important.
I have a much more cynical view. I think the later versions are self-serving.
