Why no talk of adapting? Man is the most adaptable of all species.
I've mentioned before why I found it believable in My Little Pony: A New Generation that Sprout would say flat out "This is no time for sober thinking." When the cry is that there's no time to think but only to react, hope the proposed solution works, and shout down (at least) anyone who even suggests that there may be possibilities that have been overlooked, that's a recipe for disaster.
These fools will probably bring on the next ice age early.
