Roman freedom and slavery

I found this discussion from 4 years ago interesting. I'm not expert enough on Roman culture (despite the silly claim that men think of Rome every day) to evaluate its take on the different classes of relationship and their utility today. (She thinks the classes of libertas, civitas, and familia are still relevant categories, though in different guises.)
