And he began thinking to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there. And I will say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!”’

We were very prideful about all our books. We reduced the number by half to make room for adopted children, but what really caught me up short was an older couple who had moved into assisted living. "We had to reduce the number to fifty books." Once you know most of those books are going away anyway eventually, they are easier to get rid of, and it is fun to choose good landing spots for them. It's a whole different picture of life.
Some few need that many books as tools for their work, but not many. And even those are likely keeping many they do not need. It can easily get away from you as a statement of how intelligent and intellectual one is. Unfortunately, even a curated collection can do that, so the temptation never quite goes away. Still, it's best to kill it as much as we can as we go.
